WILIER Easton – M.Pantani Mercatone Uno TdF (1997) – SOLD

Description

Marco Pantani (13 January 1970 – 14 February 2004) widely considered as one of the best climbers of his era in professional road bicycle racing. He won both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France and in 1998, is the last cyclist, and one of only seven, to win the Giro and the Tour in the same year. Pantani’s attacking style and aggressive riding turned him into a fan favorite in the late 1990s. He was known as “Il Pirata” (“The pirate”) because of his shaved head and the bandana and earrings he always wore.  At 1.72 m and 57 kg, he had the classic build for a mountain climber.

Marco Pantani rode for Mercatone Uno Team in 1997 and they were sponsored by Wilier. Their top of the line frames for pro riders were made of Easton Elite 7005 aluminum with ProGram Taperwall tubes and were arguably the very best aluminum at the time. The Wilier frame has the Easton label like a badge of honor.  Frames were manufactured in Van Nuys, California. Aluminum was the material of choice back then, even some of his biggets rivals rode full carbon bikes.

Proudly presenting one of the most iconic bikes in cycling history, the WILIER Easton – almost identical to Marco Pantani’s bike from 1997. The frame is shinning in beautiful paintjob, build with Shimano Dura ace 7700 groupset and very special Selle Italia straight pull spokes hubs with radical butting on Ambrosio Eolic rims. At their thinnest point, these spokes has diameter of 1.2mm! Only top of the top components were good enough for ”The Pirate” Selcof Titanium seatpost, Pantani’s personalized TCS saddle, 3T cockpit, LOOK pedals, so all exact components as used by Marco Pantani at the 1997 Tour de France. The cherry on the top of the cake is  Pantani’s number plate 181, ( same number was used by Pantani at the  Tour de France 1997).

Unique chance for all Pantani fans to get this amazing bike. Fair price!
