MASI 3v Volumetrica (mid 1980s) – SOLD

Description

Faliero Masi and  his son Alberto Masi, are legendary icons of the Italian bike handscrafting. They have been preferred builder for many stars in the pro peloton. Faliero Masi was handcrafting frames at the Vigorelli Velodrome in Milan in the 1950s, after a career as a professional racer and team mechanic. Alberto Masi was born June 3rd 1943 in Sesto Fiorentino, Italy. At age 16, he was Fausto Coppi’s mechanic at the Giro d’Italia. In 1973 he took over the Vigorelli shop while Faliero and two assistants went to the US and began production at a new facility in Carlsbad, California. Later, Faliero returned back to Italy.

The 3v Volumetrica is a unique blend of design, craftmanship and Italian passion to be forerunner of high-end frame consctruction. In early 1980s, Alberto Masi decided he will design a new frame with increased rigidity and efficency and at the same time maintain lightweight and standard dimensions of seattube cluster, bottom bracket and headset tube. To accomplish this he used thinner walled Swedish steel tubes with larger diameter  and his own internally lugged method in which the frame tubes are cut square to exact size, slippered over the lugs and silver-soldered into position. And so, after several experiments, in 1984 the revolutionary 3v Volumetrica was released. The frames were hand-biult from start to finish, about 60 were produced each month.

Happy to offer one of the most iconic bikes from mid 1980 – Masi 3v Volumetrica, No.291, one of very early frames produced, completelly built with superb Campagnolo Super Record groupset, original Cinelli handlebar and stem, NiSi rims and Rolls saddle. Can’t miss beautiful Masi engravings on the frame and the top of the forks shining with amazing paintjob on top of it.

For all Masi enthusiasts. Perfect piece to enrich any vintage bicycle collection. All original parts. Also very light bike to ride at any historic bike event.
