COLNAGO Super Roma 1968 (48cm) – SOLD

Description

Ernesto Colnago was born on February 9, 1932 in Cambiago, near Milan, Italy. At age 13 he entered in world of two wheels and immediately he fall in love with bikes and cycling. In 1952 he founded Colnago and started to work as mechanic for several professional teams. His first big success as a frame builder dates back in 1960 when Luigi Arienti won gold medal at the Rome Olympic games. Colnago’s bikes still have a domination of the world’s cycling sports because Ernesto was always an innovator and pioneer of new technologies which supposedly provide more efficency or comfort.

Colnago Super is for sure one of the most succesful racing bikes in history. It was released in 1968, produced for more than 20 years, was Colnago’s top model of late 1960 and 1970s and became a legend with Eddy Merckx ridding for Molteni Team. The Super was designed for professionals riders (featuring shorter top tube) and thanks to Columbus SL tubing, it was a synonym for stiffness and lightness.

Very proud to present this extremelly rare Colnago’s milestone – Colnago Super Roma 1968 – so very first generation of this iconic frame, built with Campagnolo Nuovo Record groupset, original Cinelli stem, handlebar and saddle, original Universal brake levers and Universal brakes with Super 68 pantograph, shining in beautiful paintjob makes this beauty a real eye-catcher. Easy to detect late 1960s lugs and the bottom bracket shell with drilled holes (eight in circle plus one in center) typical for 1968-1969 model. Simply, love at first sight.

There is many Colnago Super bikes on the martket, but not much Roma models from late 1960s. Extremelly rare. For all Colnago enthusiats. Suitable for any historic cycling event.
