Ernesto Colnago was born on February 9, 1932 in Cambiago, near Milan, Italy. At age 13 he entered in world of two wheels and immediately he fall in love with bikes and cycling. In 1952 he founded Colnago and started to work as mechanic for several professional teams. His first big success as a frame builder dates back in 1960 when Luigi Arienti won gold medal at the Rome Olympic games. Colnago’s bikes still have a domination of the world’s cycling sports because Ernesto was always an innovator and pioneer of new technologies which supposedly provide more efficency or comfort.
In about 1981, Ernesto Colnago decided to crimp the frame tubes (something that bike builders had been doing to chain stays for decades). Colnago Nuovo Mexico was released in 1982/83, it was stiffer than Super or Mexico models and has 2 crimps on the top tube, 4 crimps on the down tube and none inside the chain stays (Colnago Super Profil has 2 crimps on top tube, 2 crimps on down tube, crimped chainstays). The Nuovo Mexico is also predecessor for Colnago’s future models with more crimps: the Master, the Arabesque Regal and Esa Mexico.
Happy to present one of the best steel racing machines that ever left Ernesto’s factory, the COLNAGO Nuovo Mexico Profil which dates back to 1984. This 2nd generation Nuovo Mexico frame is shining in outstanding Saronni paintjob, made of crimped Columbus SL tubing (2 crimps on top tube, 4 on down tube), built with Campagnolo Super Record groupset, Cinelli Colnago stem and handlebar, NiSi rims, San Marco Concor saddle. The trandescent beauty of this steel icon remains unrivalled.
A legend. Nice catch for any Colnago enthusiasts. L’Eroica ready.
