Ernesto Colnago was born on February 9, 1932 in Cambiago, near Milan, Italy. At age 13 he entered in world of two wheels and immediately he fall in love with bikes and cycling. In 1952 he founded Colnago and started to work as mechanic for several professional teams. His first big success as a frame builder dates back in 1960 when Luigi Arienti won gold medal at the Rome Olympic games. Colnago’s bikes still have a domination of the world’s cycling sports because Ernesto was always an innovator and pioneer of new technologies which supposedly provide more efficency or comfort.
In response to criticism that Colnago frames were not stiff enough, Ernesto experimented with various crimped-tube frames. In 1983 he introduced their top model ”Master” and the legend was born. The Master was constructed with famous ”star shaped’ top, seat and down tube profile tubing called Columbus Gilco S4 designed by Gilberto Colombo to improve performance. The first version of the Colnago Master was produced in years 1983-87, later Master Più was released. In 1992 Ernesto released the Master Olympic which has Precisa fork, chromed seat-stays ands very successful racing bike in early/mid 1990s.
Dario Nicoletti (born 7 March 1967, in Mariano Comense) is an Italian former cyclist, who was professional from 1991 to 1997. In years 1993-1996 he rode for Mapei Team.
Here we are offering another Colnago’s masterpiece, the Master Olympic Mapei, ridden by Dario Nicoletti back in 1994. Superb frameset is made of Columbus Gilco S4 star shapped tubing and features special extensions on head tube and seat tube, which allows him to ride a smaller frame.
