COLNAGO Master MAPEI – by Marco Giovanetti Team Mapei (1994) – SOLD

Ernesto Colnago was born on February 9, 1932 in Cambiago, near Milan, Italy. At age 13 he entered in world of two wheels and immediately he fall in love with bikes and cyclingIn 1952 he founded Colnago and started to work as mechanic for several professional teams. His first big success as a frame builder dates back in 1960 when Luigi  Arienti won gold medal at the Rome Olympic games. Colnago’s bikes still have a domination of the world’s cycling sports because Ernesto was always an innovator and pioneer of new technologies which supposedly provide more efficency or comfort.

In response to criticism that Colnago frames were not stiff enough, Ernesto experimented with various crimped-tube frames. In 1983 he introduced their top model ”Master” and the legend was born. The Master was constructed with famous ”star shaped’ top, seat and down tube profile tubing called Columbus Gilco S4 designed by Gilberto Colombo to improve performance. The first version of the Colnago Master was produced in years 1983-87, later Master Più was released. In 1992 Ernesto released the Master Olympic which has Precisa fork, chromed seat-stays ands very successful racing bike in early/mid 1990s.

Marco Giovannetti (born 4 April 1962 in Milan) is an Italian former professional road bicycle racer. He rode for Ariostea, Gis Gelati, Seur, Gatorade and Mapei. Early in his career as an amateur, Giovannetti won the gold medal in the Team Road Race at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, together with Claudio Vandelli, Marcello Bartalini and Eros Poli.

Giovannetti’s overall win in the 1990 Vuelta a España was due to a decisive attack on stage 6 over the Las Palomas mountain range.  He became only the fourth Italian to win the Spanish Grand Tour. In 1991, Giovannetti finished all three Grand Tours in a single season. in 1992 he became Italian champion.
