COLNAGO Freccia Campagnolo Record 1st gen, 55cm (1965) – SOLD

Ernesto Colnago was born on February 9, 1932 in Cambiago, near Milan, Italy. At age 13 he entered in world of two wheels and immediately he fall in love with bikes and cycling. In 1952 he founded Colnago and started to work as mechanic for several professional teams. His first big success as a frame builder dates back in 1960 when Luigi Arienti won gold medal at the Rome Olympic games. Colnago’s bikes still have a domination of the world’s cycling sports because Ernesto was always an innovator and pioneer of new technologies which supposedly provide more efficency or comfort.

Colnago Freccia is one of Ernestos very early bikes and for sure one of the most collectible racing bikes. It was released in early 1960s, a predecessor of Colnago Super which became a legend with Eddy Merckx ridding for Molteni Team. The Freccia was designed for professionals riders and thanks to Columbus SL tubing, it was a synonym for stiffness and lightness. The ‘Freccia’ was fast like an arrow, got the name by typical ‘arrowhead’-designed seat stay caps and was a reference by which other racing bikes were judged back in 1960s.

Here we are proudly presenting another very rare steel beauty, one of earlier Ernesto’s masterpieces – Colnago Freccia. The frame is work of art, shinning in beautiful champagne paintjob, made of Columbus tubing, Campagnolo drop-outs, built with Campagnolo Record 1st gen groupset (mid 1960s), Universal 61 brakes, Fiamme wheels with Campagnolo Record 1st gen high flange hubs, Colnago saddle saddle. No much words needed, simply love at first sight.

A real jewel. For all Colnago enthusiats. A museum piece.
