CINELLI Supercorsa Campagnolo Gran Sport, 58.5cm (mid 1950s) – SOLD

Cinelli was founded in 1948 by Cino Cinelli (born Montespertoli, Italy, 9 February 1916, died 20 April 2001), a former professional road racer and president of the Italian Cyclists’ Association. He was a professional racer from 1937 to 1944, winning Milano-San Remo in 1943, the Giro di Lombardia in 1938, and the Giro dell Appenino in 1937.

Failure to interested manufacturers with his ideas in 1948 led him to start his own company. His brother Giotto was making steel stems and bars in Florence and Cinelli moved the business to Milan, the centre of the Italian cycling industry. He made stems, bars and frames also for other companies. Someone may remember him as a rider, many others remember him as the father the first aluminium handlebars, the first seat with a plastic core, the first pedal straps, the first quick release pedals.

Proudly presenting one of the most beautiful bikes in our store, the CINELLI Supercorsa. This highly collectible jewel dates back to mid 1950s and is extremely rare because of slightly different head-lugs. Extraordinary details of lugs, tubes, internal brake cable, semi-scooping fork crowns, Garry Fisher’s bottom bracket makes you understand why Cino Cinelli is one of the most appreciated framebuilders. The frame shines in beautiful metalic silver paintjob, with chromed forks. Completely original and period correct build with Campagnolo Gran sport gearing system and hubs, Cinelli cranks, stunning Cinelli steel stem and steel handlebar cockpit, outstanding Cinelli headset, BROOKS saddle, NiSi rims.
