CARRERA RC Podium – authentic bike of MARCO PANTANI (Team Mercatone Uno Scanavino 2003) – SOLD

The Carrera-Podium workshop was founded in 1989 by former professional rider and Carrera team manager Davide Boifava together with LucianoBracchi and Francesco Boifava.  The brand was born from the needs of the Carrera Team and its champions Steven Roche, Claudio Chiappucci and Marco Pantani.  The workshop had a unique synergy because the professional team worked from the same building and the team riders were built in product testers.  The Carrera bicycle brand has a rich history of over 500 victories in the most demanding road races in Europe.  Many firsts were achieved at Podium such as the first frame in which aluminum was joined to carbon and the first custom on size carbon frame made in Italy.  They were among the first to build titanium frame for professional racing and the use of ceramical aluminum to improve the comfort of aluminum racing bikes.

Marco Pantani (13 January 1970 – 14 February 2004) widely considered as one of the best climbers of his era in professional road bicycle racing. He won both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France and in 1998, is the last cyclist, and one of only seven, to win the Giro and the Tour in the same year. Pantani’s attacking style and aggressive riding turned him into a fan favorite in the late 1990s. He was known as “Il Pirata” (“The pirate”) because of his shaved head and the bandana and earrings he always wore.  At 1.72 m and 57 kg, he had the classic build for a mountain climber.

In 2003, Pantani made another comeback in the Giro d’Italia, finishing 14th overall. His best stage result was a 5th place after launching an unsuccessful attack on the slopes of Monte Zoncolan, while he launched his last attacks on the nineteenth stage to Cascata del Toce. It was the last time he rode a professional cycling race. After the Giro,  his team was not invited to the 2003 Tour de France, it was speculated that he would join Bianchi in order to ride the Tour, but he made a plea for privacy in late June 2003.
