Bianchi is the world’s oldest bicycle-making company still in existence, founded in 1885 by Eduardo Bianchi in Milan, Italy. No doubt, Bianchi is the pioneer of bicycle development since the beginning. They invented equal-sized wheels with pneumatic rubber tires in 1895, first bicycle ever featuring a cardan joint transmission in 1901 and front brake system in 1913.
Throughout Bianchi’s 130-year history, the Specialissima name has represented the pinnacle of the Italian legend’s road machine line-up. The ”Specialissima” was introduced in late 1950s as successor of famous ”Campione del mondo” model and remains Bianchi’s top model till today.
In early 1970s, Bianchi returned to the pro peloton as main sponsor of the Bianchi-Campagnolo Team. The team was continuation of the Team Salvarani, directed by Vittorio Adorni, the 1965 Giro d’Italia winner and 1968 World Champion. The Bianchi-Campagnolo Team was one of the strongest teams back then with 1972 and 1973 world champions Marino Basso and Felice Gimondi on board. In 1974 F.Gimondi won Milan-San Remo, in 1976 he won the Giro di Italia. In 1976 the entire Bianchi Campagnolo team were using Bianchi Specialissima bikes, basically the same we are presenting here.
Happy to offer another Bianchi‘s top class racing machine, the Specialissima Super Record which dates back to 1976. Extraordinary details makes you understand that Edoardo Bianchi was a medical tool engineer, before he started with bike manufacturing: beautiful lugs with cut-outs, fork crown with ‘B’, lightweight Columbus SL tubing and aero-shaped seat stays marked Bianchi with serial number on both sides of the seat lug (serial number 6.6 means the frame was made in June 1976). Same as Felice Gimondi‘s bike, also this Specialissima is fully build with Campagnolo Super Record 1st gen groupset, 3ttt stem and handlebar, NiSi rims. Comes with original vintage Bianchi water bottle and bottle cage. No much words needed.
Iconic and very collectible! Nice catch for any vintage bike collector. L’Eroica ready.
