Wilier was founded in 1906 by Pietro Dal Molin in Bassano del Grappa (Veneto, Italy) and is one of the best known names in Italian cycling, Following WWII Wilier formed a professional cycling team led by Giordano Cottur of Trieste. In 1945, the name of the brand was changed to Wilier Triestina, and the distinctive copper colored finish became a trademark of Wilier Triestina. The great Italian cyclist Fiorenzo Magni won the 1948 Giro d’Italia upon a Wilier Triestina , in 1952 the factory ended production and left cycling. However, in 1969 the Wilier Triestina marque was reconstituted and once again entered the world of pro- cycling. In 1985 and 1986 Claudio Corti won the Italian national championships, riding one of the most beautiful racing bicycles ever to grace the pelotons of professional cycling – Wilier Triestina ”Gioiello Ramato” (Copper Jewel).
Wilier is an acroynm for Viva l’Italia Libera e Redenta (Long live Italy, liberated and redeemed).
The ”Gioiello Ramato” (Copper Jewel) is a lugged steel frame featuring a chrome fork and chainstay in a classic style. Extraordinary copper finish was obtained through a long and complex process called ”cromovelato” in which copper laquer was applied over the chrome finish. A copper finish is one of the most recognizable frame colors in cycling and is easily identified with Wilier as celeste is identified with Bianchi.
Columbus MS (or Multi-Shaped) tubes are some of the most unique and beautiful ever. Each of the MS tubes has a different shape. The non-drive side chainstay is triangular shaped and a larger flat-sided oval chainstay was used on the drive-side. The top tube is lemon shaped (not ovalized, it has distinct ridges down the sides of the tubes) with the long axis traversing the head tube. The down tube has tear drop shaped but designed to be mounted upside down (pointed edge facing the ground) relative to normal orientation of a tube this shaped. The seat tube is a long taper from 28.6mm at the BB shell to 26.4mm at the top tube end and designed to take a 25.4mm seat post.
Here is a profile section of the Columbus MS – Multi Shaped tubes. From left to right: non drive chainstay, drive side chainstay, top tube, down tube and Air seat stays.
Proudly prsenting one of the most beautiful bikes ever – Wilier Triestina MS Ramata. Amazing paintjob, stunning details of Columbus MS tubes, lugs and headtube badge makes this frame truly a work of art. Build with the Campagnolo C-Record groupset, iconic Delta brakes, pantograph Cinelli Wilier stem, Mavic clincher wheels, San Marco Regal saddle. Love at first sight.
