ROSSIN Ghibli SLX, Campagnolo C Record Delta 57cm (1987) – SOLD

Description

Rossin is not the oldest of the great Italian bike builders but it is certainly up with the very best. Their story starts in 1973 when Gibi Baronchelli, riding for Iclas Team, won the amateur versions of the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France. Vittorio Ghezzi, the owner of the Iclas Team decided to build a professional team around Baronchelli. The plan was to use bikes supplied by Colnago who were already supplying bikes to the SCIC Team. With help from Colnago, Baronchelli jumped to the SCIC team, angering Ghezzi who dropped Colnago as bike supplier for his team.

Mario Rossin worked as a frame builder at Colnago for several years and got invited to join the new company. On September 14, 1974, Cicli Rossin was established by five partners – Vittorio Ghezzi and his son Guiseppe, Alberto Inzaghi, Domenico Garbelli, and Mario Rossin, who all agreed that the new bikes would be called “Rossin.”  The “R” in the Rossin logo was adopted from Rossignol skis, and the pentagon represents the five founding members of the company. Mario Rossin was the design genius behind the company’s begining and ever since then the Rossin name has been one of innovation and racing success.

Rossin continued their tradition of innovation with some radical monocoque “Space” time trial frames with sloping top tubes and very aerodynamic handlebars. In 1983, they invented the disc wheel which was used by Francesco Moser to set the one hour record in Mexico. Also in 1983, The Soviet and American track teams were riding Rossins.

Here we are presenting this outstanding Rossin Ghibli SLX, which dates back to 1987 and was one of the most advanced bikes on the market back then.  Superb frameset is made of super light and stiff of Columbus SLX profiled tubing, shining in an outstanding paintjob. On the technical side, a high-end Campagnolo C Record groupset with iconic Delta brakes, 3ttt Rossin cockpit, Cinelli Volare SLX saddle, Campagnolo 50th freewheel completes this racing machine and makes perfect in every detail. Almost impossible to find this kind of bikes nowadays. No much words needed.

A real eye-turner. Great catch for any vintage bike collector.
