PINARELLO Montello SLX Croce d’Aune 56,5cm (mid 1980s) -SOLD

Giovanni Pinarello was born in Catena di Villorba, Italy in 1922. He was the eighth of 12 brothers. At the age of fifteen, Giovanni began making bicycles at the factory of Paglianti. After a successful amateur career he turned professional in 1947. After his carrer, in 1952 he founded Cicli Pinarello S.p.A. in Treviso, Italy.

The Pinarello Montello SLX was a landmark model for Pinarello and is for sure one of the best racing machine which ever left Giovanni Pinarello’s factory in Treviso, Italy. The  ”Montello SLX” was their top model in years 1984-’88 and basically the  frame with which Pinarello started to dominate on cycling races around the globe. In mid 1980s Montello SLX achieved many important  victories such as the 1984 Olympics Road Race, Vuelta a España, the Giro d’Italia and stages of the Tour de France.

Croce d’Aune is a mountain pass in the Italian Dolomites (1015m above sea level) near Belluno. It became famous as the place where Tullio Campagnolo was trying and failing to remove rear wheel of his bicycle back in 1930s. Later he invented a quick release skewer. In 1988 Campagnolo released Campagnolo Croce d’Aune groupset with famous Delta brakes.

Here we are proudly presenting another superb Italian racing machine – Pinarello Montello SLX. Legendary frameset dates back to mid 1980s and is made of high end Columbus SLX butted tubing with Pinarello’s especially designed bottom bracket. It’s easy to detect beautiful ”GPT” engravings and Pinarello logo in many locations (fork crown, seatstay, rear brake bridge, braze on, drop-outs, bb shell…). The cherry on top is the combination of metalic ‘Ferrari red‘ paintjob and Campagnolo Crode d’Aune groupset with Pinarello pantographs and iconic Delta brakes.
