GIOS Torino Super Record, Campagnolo Super Record, 55cm (1979) – SOLD

Tolmino Gios was born in 1916, ex-professional cyclist, member of the Italian National Team for the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. In 1948 he established Cicli Gios Torino, when he built his first bike in a small workshop in Torino, Italy. Soon after, Tolmino’s son Alfredo began working for the family company and took it to another level.

In 1972, BROOKLYN (chewing gum manufacturer)  entered in a pro-cycling as a main sponsor of the Dreher Team (1970-1972), which quit their sponsorship.  The new team was managed Giorgio Perfetti and headed by two of the biggest stars of the era, the Paris Roubaix specialist Roger De Vlaeminck and great sprinter Patrick Sercu. From 1973-1977 the BROOKLYN team amassed an enviable list of results including classics such as Paris-Roubaix, Milan-Sanremo, Tour of Flanders and the 1974 Tour de France green jersey. Famous ‘GIOS BLUE’ colour was developed by Alfredo Gios to match stars and stripes on the jersey of the BROOKLYN team. This unique and recognisable colour combined with the success became an iconic part of a rich Italian cycling history…. and to this day enjoys an almost cult among cycling enthusiasts worldwide.
