Gianni Motta (born 13 March 1943) was an Italian bike racer whose professional career ran from the middle 1960’s to 1976. Gianni Motta won the Giro di Lombardia, the Tour de Suisse, and the 1966 Giro d’Italia as the leader of the Molteni team. When Gianni retired from racing he started a bike company.
After his successful career, he turned to building top class bicycles that lived up to their name. These bicycles are famous for their elegance, stiffness and efficient power transmission. The top of the line model was called ‘Personal’. The bike we present here is one of them – More than a bicycle, simply a piece of art. Gianni’s bike designs were inspired by the best of Italy’s frame builders. There is a shadow of Bianchi, Ugo De Rosa, Antonio Mondonico and Ernesto Colnago in a lot of the Motta bikes that we’ve seen, but Gianni always added something extra.
The Gianni Motta Personal 2001R which we are offering here, belongs to the most advanced lugged frames of the 1980s which excels in stiffness and utter beauty. Superb octagonal tubing (similar to Colnago Master), very elegant “S curved” seat stays, famous octogonal Motta fork crown. Fully equipped with a top range Campagnolo C-Record groupset, iconic Delta brakes, 3ttt stem and handlebar, Campagnolo Omega wheels.
Great catch for any vintage bike collector.
