COLNAGO Master MAPEI – by Jan Svorada Team MAPEI (1996/97) – SOLD

Ernesto Colnago was born on February 9, 1932 in Cambiago, near Milan, Italy. At age 13 he entered in world of two wheels and immediately he fall in love with bikes and cyclingIn 1952 he founded Colnago and started to work as mechanic for several professional teams. His first big success as a frame builder dates back in 1960 when Luigi  Arienti won gold medal at the Rome Olympic games. Colnago’s bikes still have a domination of the world’s cycling sports because Ernesto was always an innovator and pioneer of new technologies which supposedly provide more efficency or comfort.

In response to criticism that Colnago frames were not stiff enough, Ernesto experimented with various crimped-tube frames. In 1983 he introduced their top model ”Master” and the legend was born. The Master was constructed with famous ”star shaped’ top, seat and down tube profile tubing called Columbus Gilco S4 designed by Gilberto Colombo to improve performance. The first version of the Colnago Master was produced in years 1983-87, later Master Più was released. In 1992 Ernesto released the Master Olympic which has Precisa fork, chromed seat-stays ands very successful racing bike in early/mid 1990s.

Ján Svorada (born 28 August 1968 in Trenčín) was born in Czechoslovakia. The country split up in 1993, he raced for Slovakia until 1996, in 1997 he started racing for the Czech Republic. Svorada started his pro career in 1991 with Lampre, in 1996 he moved to Panaria. In 1997 and 1998 he raced for legendary Mapei team. In 1997 he won 3 stages at the Giro d’Italia, 3 stages at Volta Catalunya. Svorada won stage 2 of the 1998 Tour de France and became a rarity in professional cycling. His first stage win at the Tour de France (Stage 7 in 1994) was obtained as a Slovak cyclist, and later he won also a stage in 1998 as a Czech rider.

Here we are offering another Colnago’s masterpiece, the Master Competition Mapei, ridden by Jan Svorada back in late 1996 and early 1997.  It was his first bike, after he signed with Team Mapei.
