Ernesto Colnago was born on February 9, 1932 in Cambiago, near Milan, Italy. At age 13 he entered in world of two wheels and immediately he fall in love with bikes and cycling. In 1952 he founded Colnago and started to work as mechanic for several professional teams. His first big success as a frame builder dates back in 1960 when Luigi Arienti won gold medal at the Rome Olympic games. Colnago’s bikes still have a domination of the world’s cycling sports because Ernesto was always an innovator and pioneer of new technologies which supposedly provide more efficency or comfort. Colnago has always been one of the most innovative manufactures of all time.
In 1987 the time had come: the manufacture of the world’s first serial produced carbon fibre monocoque frame started. And by 1988 the innovative Colnago Carbon Volo was available to the public. And it stayed available only for one year. The fact that is was only made for one year as well as the revolutionary techniques behind its production make the Carbon Volo one of the rarest and most collectible serial produced Colnago bikes.
It was subsequently superseded by the legendary Colnago C35 which differed from the Volo by small details and a straight fork. Its short-lived era in the cycling catalogues makes the Carbon Volo basically the prototype of the C35.
Happy to present this oustanding milestone from Cambiago – Colnago Carbon Volo. The amazing shapes of the frame makes you understand that Carbon Volo was ahead of the time when it was designed back in 1987. Build with Campagnolo Record 8s groupset, stuinning Campagnolo Bora 1st gen wheels, Selle Italia Turbo saddle. Love at first sight.
The legend. Special piece for any Colnago lover.
