BOTTECCHIA Oval Super Record – authentic bike of Team HOONVED Bottechia (1982) – SOLD

Ottavio Bottecchia (1 August 1894 – 15 June 1927) is a legend of the cycling world, entered in the history for beeing the first Italian athlete who won the Tour de France on 1924, wearingthe yellow jersey of the Tour from the first to the last stage. He also won the Tour de France in 1925. Ottavio Bottecchia was able to crown a magnificent sporting carrier full of successes and goals which brought prestige to the Italian cycling all over the worldEntered the professionals elite when he was 27 years old, Ottavio became famous thanks to his tenacity and to his great climber’s ability. After working as bricklayer receving a purple heart in the army he decided to follow his great passion and become a professional rider.

Between 1930 and 1940 about one hundred employees build Bottecchia bicycles, Triumph motorcycles, and later Vittoria motorcycles. Bottecchia bicycles are produced in large numbers and in different versions, however, the one that gives the most satisfaction is the racing model. Carnielli, a fanatic of bike racing, decides to begin sponsoring cycling teams who use Bottecchia bicycles.

In the late 1960s, the Bottecchia brand eturned to bike racing and they achieved many victories. In the course of several decades, cyclists using Bottecchia achieve many prestigious victoriesGiro d’Italia (1957, 1966, 1979), Milano-Sanremo (1951), Tirreno-Adriatico (1978); World championship (1966), Tour de France (1989, Greg Le Mond), Giro d’Italia (2006, U23). In the mid-90s the Bottecchia brand is separated from Carnielli, and its corporate team moves Bottecchia from Vittorio Veneto to Cavarzere in the province of Venice. Thus began the rebirth of a brand that points to the world market.

Team HOONVED Bottecchia was one of the best teams in late 1970s and early 1980s. In 1982 they had some good ridders on board like: M.Beccia, E.Bombini, D.Thurau, D.Gisiger, S.Milani… The entire team rode quality Bottecchia Super Record bikes made of rounded Columbus SL tubing. During the season one or two riders got also a special Bottechia Oval, made of Columbus Oval tubing for aerodynamic and stiffness reasons. One of these special and super rare bikes is presented here.

Here we are offer another superb and extremely rare bike  – BOTTECCHIA Oval Super Record of Team Bottecchia Hoonved, which dates back to 1982. Superb frame is made of Columbus Oval tubing, featuring attention to details for aerodynamic approach with internal cables, shining in original Team Hoonved paint scheme. Built with top-class Campagnolo Super Record groupset, Mavic GP4 wheelset, 3ttt stem and handlebar. No much words needed.
