Trademark Atala was born in 1907 in Milan and is responsible for writing many memorable pages in the cycling history. The first two editions of the Giro d’Italia 1909 and 1910, were won Luigi Ganna and Carlo Galetti and both rode for Atala Team. In 1921 artigian frame-builder Cesare Rizatto took over building top road bikes for Atala.
Tulio Campagnolo stood on a cold mountain top, and couldn’t unscrew the wing nuts on the rear wheel of his bike because his fingers were frozen. He enhanced his products while constantly seeking cutting-edge solutions. In mid 1940s he invented the quick release hub and revolutionary gearing system called Campagnolo Cambio Corsa – due leve (two lewers).
Luciano Pezzi (7 February 1921 – 26 June 1998) was an Italian professional road bicycle racer, from Russi, Ravenna. Pezzi competed from 1948 to 1958, known for his participation in multiple Grand Tours including five Tour de France and eleven Giro d’Italia. In the Giro d’Italia, Pezzi’s best Grand Tour general classification result came in 1950, where he placed eighth overall, trailing winner Hugo Koblet by 14 minutes and 34 seconds while riding for the Atala Team. His biggest success is a stage win at the Tour de France 1955.
Here we are proudly presenting a steel racing machine from the golden era – 1949 ATALA Campagnolo Cambio Corsa, ridden by Luciano Pezzi (Atala Team). Museum piece.
