Panasonic was a Dutch professional cycling team, sponsored by the Matusishita Corporation, formed in 1984 by team manager Peter Post, when the TI–Raleigh main sponsors, withdrew sponsorship. Peter Post retained some riders, and rebuilt his team, with riders, who became one of the most dominant teams, for both classics, and stage races. With riders like M.Fondriest, U.Freuler, V.Ekimov, J.Planckaert, M.Sergeant, J.Heppner, O.Ludwig among others they were on of the strongest team in early 1990s.
The Panasonic team, had a reputation for always having the best equipment, vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, team wear by Descente, team bicycles from Raleigh 1984-85 / Eddy Merckx 1986–87 & Colnago 1988–89, were always fitted with Campagnolo groupsets. In years 1990–92 the team used Panasonic branded bicycles, fitted with Shimano Dura Ace groupsets, Cinelli stem and handlebars, Mavic wheels.
Maurizio Fondriest was born in Cles, Trentino on 15 January 1965. He turned professional in 1987 with the Ecoflam team. In 1988, he rode for Alfa-Lum, winning the World Cycling Championships along with stages in the Tour de Suisse and Tirreno–Adriatico. In 1991, ridding for Panasonic Sportlife Team, he won the UCI Road World Cup. In 1993, riding for the Lampre team, he won Milan–San Remo, La Flèche Wallonne, the Züri-Metzgete, the Giro dell’Emilia, the general classification and two stages of Tirreno–Adriatico, a stage in the Giro d’Italia and the overall UCI World Cup.
Here we are presenting a Japanese made racing machine ridden by Maurizio Fondriest, the PANASONIC PR-6000 which dates back to 1991. The superb frameset is made of Tange Prestige tubing with special longer version of a seat tube clamp which was made only for team bikes. Shinning in beautiful Panasonic paintjob, equipped with Shimano Dura ace 7402 groupset, Cinelli cockpit, Mavic Paris Roubaix SSC wheels, San Marco Rolls saddle and a number holder. No extra words needed.
